Celtic confident ahead of SPL start

Celtic will begin their 2009 Premier League campaign on Saturday, bursting with confidence after having secured a place in the Champions League playoffs by overturning a first leg deficit against Dynamo Moscow with a 2-1 win in Russia.

The Hoops are favourites amongst many to claim back the Scottish Premier League title in 2010 given that the club has recruited a clutch of talented young players, whilst arch-rivals, Rangers, will have to make do with the squad that took the to the title in 2009.

Tony Mowbray’s team kick off their SPL campaign with a match against Aberdeen on Saturday, and will then face a tough test next week in the form of a Champions League playoff against English giants, Arsenal. It is this match that is likely to occupy the minds of Celtic’s players as they prepared to begin the new season in earnest.

“The fact that they are in the top four in the Premier League ranks them as one of the best teams in the world,” Mowbray told the Guardian. “That will be the case and the supporters have to understand the quality of player we are playing against on Tuesday night.”
