Rangers beat Falkirk to take Scottish double

Glasgow Rangers claimed the Scottish double on Saturday, defeating a gutsy Falkirk side 1-0 in the Scottish FA Cup final to add that trophy to the league trophy they won the previous weekend.

A spectacular strike by Rangers’ Nacho Novo proved to be enough to put down the challenge from a brave Falkirk side that entered the match on the back of a fierce battle for Premiership survival against Inverness.

The result capped an impressive turnaround for Rangers, who had started the season in the worst possible manner, losing to FBK Kaunas in the early stages of the UEFA Cup – after having reached the final of the tournament the previous season.

“It can always get better in terms of the team and the squad. With a bit of luck we can maybe add to that and look to strengthen,” said Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist. “But in terms of what the boys achieved in the last two years the team deserve all the credit going.”

“Last year was so close to being the best season in the club’s history. It ended up being, in many people’s eyes, a disappointment when we lost the league on the final day. We can sit and talk about it all day if we deserved or we didn’t deserve it. The fact is we didn’t win it. I just felt that this year it was a real reward for the players.”
